I have to keep the promise

Diary Entry 3:

It has been an exhausting day for everyone in the army. I can say that I learned so many new things in the army this months that I have been here. It made me a real man, a strong person with no other fears. We receive letters from Molly and my mom. I miss them so much. I think every single day of Molly and the baby that is gonna come on the world with us. But at the same time, I met a girl here. Her name is Anna. I didn't have the chance to talk to her a lot. Until.. a tragic accident happened.. She died. I got over her death quite fast, but I was a bit heart-broken for a few days. I fought and fought in the war. Thousands of soldiers were dying daily. Every day I was praying not me to be the one that the life was gonna be taken. I was talking sometimes with my father and looking up at the sky. I knew he was up there protecting us, protecting Molly, mom and Big Joe. Charlie was so lucky. Going back home because someone shot him in the leg. I was at the same time sad but also happy. I knew he was gonna go visit Little Tommy and spend a few days at home and treating well the injury. After he came back bad things happened. That argument with Sergeant Hanley was really bad. He punished him by death. I was destroyed. I felt alone. For another time. He gave me his watch and said to take care of his family, mom and Big Joe after I come back from the war. Sergeant Hanley died as well. He had been blown up by a grenade out in the ranges. They told us that there is going to be soon an almighty push and we're going to be part of it. I will fight for my country. Survive. I have to keep promises. I will never let down Charlie, even tough he is up there with Father, Anna and Bertha.

Taking the Big Step

Diary Entry 2:

Molly and Charlie are waiting for a baby. Yes, Molly is pregnant. I have to wake up. I have to put all the thing in order because I can't live in this house anymore. I have no place in this house anymore. I have to leave it, I want to. Big Joe is acting really weird in the last few days and I'm really scared for him not to do the same mistake and to leave the house again. The war is here. Germans are coming for us. It is everywhere in the newspaper, schools, shops. They have to chose people to fight in the war. When they were doing the election. I was there. Everyone was screaming  and shouting. I couldn't forget this phrase: "Because mark my words ladies and gentlemen, if we don't stop them out in France, the Germans will be here , right here in Hatherleigh, right here on your doorstep."  I could feel all the silence around, nobody was talking. It was a deep speech. Never in my life heard such a painful speech. They started choosing boys who are going to fight in the war. I was one of them. They choose me. I had to admit it, I was a bit scared. You had to be 17 to fight but, lots of underaged boys where chosen to fight. I couldn't do it. So, I  left the group and ran quickly home with the words of an old lady saying to me: "Y'ain't a coward, are you?" Am I? I have to be strong. What did I do? I just embarrassed myself in front of everyone. I told my mom everything. She said no. But I couldn't live Charlie fight alone. I had to be there for him, next to him. So, here did the journey start. We have to be strong and stay alive as much as possible.

Private Peaceful by Michael Morpungo

Diary Entry 1: Me, Tommo.

I feel stressful, guilty, insecure. When should I tell my family that actually I am responsible for the death of my own dad. Or actually how? They will hate me. They will never love me again. I hate it. I hate living with this blame inside of me. I don’t feel enough confident. And also Molly would not understand me, since I’ve been Charlie’s and Molly’s postman whole last year. I was happy and sad at the same time. Happy, because I could see Molly really often this days and spend time together with her hiding from her family, since she was not allowed to see us anymore. And sad… because I knew something was going on between her and Charlie. Was she loving him more than me? Did he replace me? Yesterday Molly’s mom came to our house together with Molly and showed my mom all the letters between Charlie and Molly. Molly’s mom was really angry and Molly was devastated. After, Molly’s mom asked if they were seeing each other as well. Charlie said the deep hurting truth. I couldn’t believe it. Him and Molly were meeting as well, not only sending letters. I was destroyed and my heart was broken.
