Diary Entry 2:
Molly and Charlie are waiting for a baby. Yes, Molly is pregnant. I have to wake up. I have to put all the thing in order because I can't live in this house anymore. I have no place in this house anymore. I have to leave it, I want to. Big Joe is acting really weird in the last few days and I'm really scared for him not to do the same mistake and to leave the house again. The war is here. Germans are coming for us. It is everywhere in the newspaper, schools, shops. They have to chose people to fight in the war. When they were doing the election. I was there. Everyone was screaming and shouting. I couldn't forget this phrase: "Because mark my words ladies and gentlemen, if we don't stop them out in France, the Germans will be here , right here in Hatherleigh, right here on your doorstep." I could feel all the silence around, nobody was talking. It was a deep speech. Never in my life heard such a painful speech. They started choosing boys who are going to fight in the war. I was one of them. They choose me. I had to admit it, I was a bit scared. You had to be 17 to fight but, lots of underaged boys where chosen to fight. I couldn't do it. So, I left the group and ran quickly home with the words of an old lady saying to me: "Y'ain't a coward, are you?" Am I? I have to be strong. What did I do? I just embarrassed myself in front of everyone. I told my mom everything. She said no. But I couldn't live Charlie fight alone. I had to be there for him, next to him. So, here did the journey start. We have to be strong and stay alive as much as possible.
